Assumptions: Coke=87 per cent, carbon. Stone=94 per cent. CaC03. 1 cu. ft. C0=345 B. T. U. 1 cu. ft. H~=294 B. T. U. 1 Ib. coke=12,740 B. T. U. 1 ton coke= 28,538,000 B. T. U. Sp. heat of gas=0.0203 B. T. U. per cu. ft. It is assumed that the oxygen in CaO, MgO, A12O3, etc., is not set free, all oxygen being derived from the air, the ore, the carbonic acid of the stone, and the moisture in the blast. On a moist summer day the air holds about 6.0 grains of water per cu. ft. On a cold winter day it holds 1.7 grains or less. The average for the year is about 3.6 grains.
